Data Engineer

We are on the lookout for a Data Engineer with a robust background in SQL Server and ideally Azure Data Factory. The ideal candidate will have a wealth of experience in business intelligence, data modelling, and visualisation, and will be proficient in Agile Scrum Development methodology. This pivotal role involves leading the development of business intelligence solutions and empowering users to create impactful visuals.

This role is hybrid based in Middlesbrough, with on-site presence 2-3 times weekly.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Lead the development of BI Solution Architecture, Replication Warehouse, and secure data sets using the Microsoft application stack.
  • Create and maintain secure data sets for systems, enabling Key users to produce reports.
  • Perform ETL integrations and support tasks using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and other technologies.
  • Coach and mentor junior BI professionals.
  • Test and modify new data sets and reports to ensure reliability and operational continuity.
  • Address data integrity, quality, and robustness issues in legacy/system data to enhance reporting.
  • Develop and update BI process maps that underpin system architecture and configuration.
  • Drive excellence through effective and efficient use of systems.
  • Document business requirements and consult with end users to ensure evolving business needs are met.
  • Develop and maintain consistent solutions across approved application suites.
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive data/information.
  • Build and maintain workflows and process automation.
  • Support digital transformation projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years' experience as a business intelligence developer, data engineer or in a related role.
  • Proficiency with SQL Management Server, SSRS, SSIS, and other related systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure stack and technologies such as ADF, Logic Apps, Data Lake, Data Bricks, Power Query, etc.
  • Experience in low code MS related technologies, SharePoint, Nintex, Power Apps, Power Bi, etc.
  • ETL related experience using SSIS, ADF, or similar products for complex integrations.
  • Role experience as a DBA or in DBA related activities.
  • Relevant further qualification in a business analytics related field.
  • Strong technical acumen with the ability to analyse complex situations and solve problems.
  • Understanding of GDPR and good practice in complex data management.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Pragmatic approach, able to balance the ideal with the reality of what is needed today.
  • Ability to thrive in a complex, rapidly changing, and demanding globally integrated business environment.
  • Experience/knowledge of Agile Scrum development methodology.
