CARE ASSISTANT

Type of school: Residential Special Educational Needs School. We care for children aged between 5 and 11 years who have a range of complex needs associated with SEMH.

Age range: Primary

Hours: Shifts between 7.30am - 21.00pm Monday to Friday. Term time plus INSET days

Salary: £13/hr - £15/hr

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and energetic Care Officer to join the staff team at our Primary Residential SEMH School, designated by Ofsted as Outstanding.

Applicants must be enthusiastic, with an understanding of and commitment to children with severe behavioural, social and emotional difficulties. The successful applicant will receive the relevant training and support required to become part of our dedicated and innovative team. You will need to be flexible, working shifts between the hours 07:30 - 21:00, Monday to Friday, term time plus 5 CPD days.

An example shift could be:

  • Monday 14:00 - 21:00
  • Tuesday 07:30 - 09:30 / 12:00 - 21:00 with a break included
  • Wednesday 07:30 - 09:30 / 14:30 - 21:00
  • Thursday 07:30- 09:30 / 14:30 - 21:00
  • Friday 07:30- 15:00

Job Description:

  • To work as a member of the Child Care Team in accordance with the school's policies, with responsibilities for tasks relating to the care and welfare of pupils, and specifically those within the keyworker's group.
  • The overall function of a Child Care Officer is to be immediately responsible for the care, welfare and leisure time activities of a group of children under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Management Team.
  • To maintain clear, effective and impartial communication between Education and Care staff and the Senior Management Team.
  • To monitor objectively the quality of relationships between pupils, between staff and pupils and between staff, with the constant aim of improvement.

Requirements:

  • Right To Work in the UK (NO SPONSORSHIP provided) (Candidates on SKilled Worker Visa are not eligible for this position)
  • Prior experience working with people with Special Needs. ( traumatic, degenerative, terminal conditions)
  • An understanding of how to manage children assertively without using dominance
  • Working with or caring for children of primary school age. (Preferably)
  • Minimum 6 months of experience working in a school or care setting in the UK (Mandatory)
