Location: Bristol, Hybrid working (2-3 days in the office)

Our client is a leading cyber reinsurer specialising in innovative solutions to manage and mitigate cyber risks. Leveraging cutting-edge technology and data analytics, they develop proprietary models that drive their business forward.

Role Overview:

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Risk Scientist to join their dynamic team in Bristol. This role is pivotal to the ongoing development of their proprietary cyber risk model. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in large-scale stochastic model development and high-performance scientific computing, with deep expertise in statistical modelling and probability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the proprietary cyber risk estimation system, ensuring its robustness and performance in assessing cyber risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new data sources and methodologies into the system.
  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses, industry and threat analysis, and reporting to support cyber risk assessment.
  • Optimise the computational performance and scalability of the simulation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in cyber risk measurement & estimation, data science, and high-performance computing to continuously improve the system's capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a related field, such as risk/catastrophe modelling, actuarial science, quantitative finance, data science, or a similar discipline involving large-scale simulation of correlated events and extreme scenarios.
  • Demonstrated experience in large-scale stochastic model development and high-performance scientific computing.
  • Real-world commercial expertise in statistical modelling and probability.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and tools commonly used in scientific computing and data analysis, including scientific Python, Spark, CUDA, and SQL. Experience with Databricks is desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience in cyber insurance or cybersecurity is not essential but would be beneficial.
  • A degree in a STEM field or equivalent industrial experience.
