Senior Buyer

I am recruiting for an experienced and dynamic Senior Buyer to join a growing procurement team in a £multi-million manufacturing business near Wigan. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key role within our procurement department, offering a competitive salary of up to £45,000.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee two purchasing staff, ensuring duties are carried out in a timely manner and to a high standard.
  • Set and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the department.
  • Manage all purchasing activities, including raw materials, packaging, and miscellaneous items for multiple sites.
  • Negotiate prices, terms, and conditions with suppliers.
  • Arrange regular meetings with suppliers.
  • Run the Supplier Quality Assurance System.
  • Ensure correct documentation is sent to new suppliers, including Quality & REACH questionnaires, and ensure they are completed.
  • Obtain Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for new products from new suppliers.
  • Generate weekly purchasing figures for the Directors, monthly stock reports, and quarterly purchasing reports for the Managing Director.
  • Ensure the year-end stock count is completed accurately and the report is generated.
  • SOP and Manual Updates: Write and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Purchasing Department and update the Purchasing Manual as needed.
  • Costings: Provide quarterly costings for the Finance Department.
  • Meetings: Chair the Monthly Purchasing Departmental Meeting.
  • Stock Management: Ensure raw materials and packaging are purchased and in stock to allow the Production/Planning team to implement the Production Plan.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in procurement - ideally, all experience within chemical procurement
  • IT literate and able to pick up new systems quickly
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
