School Nurse Assistant

We're recruiting an Assistant to the School Nurse to join our team from September on a fixed term contract basis.

Start Date: 2nd September 2024

Our partner school provides day placements for students aged 6 to 16 years primarily with communication and interaction difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that create barriers to learning.

With small classes, typically 7 children and a minimum of 3 staff per class you can focus on the needs of each student. There is a full clinical team onsite to support at all times and you will have the support of an experienced and stable SLT.

Key Duties

  • Carry out routine and non-routine medical administration as directed by the School Nurse, ensuring that the necessary documentation including written consent from parents/carers and Medical Administration Record (MAR) etc., has been completed before any medication is given to a pupil and in accordance with the Aurora Medication Policy and Procedures.
  • Ensure that a MAR has been completed as directed by the Registered School Nurse before giving any routine medication. In the absence of the School Nurse this can be undertaken providing appropriate training and competence has been met.
  • Ensure that any medication errors are reported immediately as per the Medication Policy and Procedure.
  • Ensure safe storage, supply and administration of drugs including controlled drugs and health equipment in accordance with the Aurora Group's Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, and comply with legal requirements at all times.
  • Update pupil administration systems to ensure timely data collection and confidentiality.
  • Effectively use information technology for the benefit of pupil care in accordance with the Information Technology Policies.
  • To assist with prompt and effective communication relating to changes in pupil health and wellbeing status to the School Nurse, Clinical Lead or wider school team as appropriate.
  • Promptly deal with equipment failure in accordance with procedure.
  • Promptly report all incidents or accidents involving pupils, visitors or staff and take appropriate action according to Policy.
  • Ensure the safekeeping of pupil's property in the Medical Centre such as medication and spare clothing.
  • Supporting the School Nurse with the administration duties involved in implementing and maintaining Individual Health Care Plans ensuring that plans are current and in date.
  • Supporting the School Nurse with administrative duties during the admission of new students.
  • Following relevant training, to provide Medication Administration training to education staff members as needed.
  • Support the School Nurse with delivering training as needed.
  • Undertake other medical Centre duties as directed and overseen by the School Nurse or Clinical Lead as required.
  • Undertake other duties related to the identification, maintenance, and audit of the first aid kits, eye wash stations, burns kits and other first aid equipment on site as directed by the Business Manager
