**Job Purpose:

To ensure the school's buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and functional condition. The Maintenance Officer supports the smooth running of school operations by carrying out preventative maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of the facilities.

**Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine inspections of school premises and infrastructure.
  • Perform general repairs and maintenance, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical tasks (as appropriate and within qualifications).
  • Maintain grounds and gardens, including mowing, trimming, and rubbish removal.
  • Oversee and support contractors on site, ensuring compliance with safety and school protocols.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are maintained in safe working condition.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests raised by school staff.
  • Maintain records of repairs, maintenance logs, and safety checks.
  • Assist in setting up for school events, including moving furniture and equipment.
  • Comply with all workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements and school policies.
  • Support emergency procedures, including fire drills and evacuation plans.

**Key Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong practical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of building services and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety standards.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks.

**Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant trade qualification or equivalent experience (preferred).
  • Previous experience in a similar maintenance or facilities role.
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent (mandatory).
  • First Aid and CPR certification (desirable).
  • Driver's License

**Work Environment:

  • Indoor and outdoor work.
  • May involve working at heights or using tools and machinery.
  • Requires some lifting and physical labor.
