My client is looking for an experienced Buyer who will be Responsible for day to day purchasing, sub-contract manufacture and proprietary purchases of goods and services in the UK and overseas territories. Assist with or carry out any other activities as required by your Line Manager or Head of Projects.

This is a Full-time permanent role based in Derby with excellent public transport connections, this role is 37.5 hours a week, 8.30 am to 5.00 pm, the role offers flexible working with 2 days in the office and 3 working from home.

Salary £30-35k.

Responsibilities:

  • To purchase equipment and services to support project leaders, and internal customers as required. This process will include the preparation of enquiries, purchase orders, evaluation of bids and contractual negotiations, to optimise returns achieving/improving upon budgeted costs, ensuring ‘best practice'.
  • To manage suppliers to meet objectives related to cost, delivery, performance, schedule and delivery.
  • To negotiate with suppliers on lead-time, cost and quality to obtain the maximum benefit to the business.
  • To expedite suppliers and produce regular feedback to the project team.
  • To perform regular performance review with suppliers to drive continuous improvements.
  • To coordinate documentation approvals, submissions and monitor returns.
  • To provide feedback to the business as appropriate.
  • To provide assistance to Business Development & applications department in the form of advice and estimates for costs of manufacture and shipping.
  • To undertake alternative supplier evaluations in readiness for future strategic challenges, within the supply chain, when required.
  • To adhere to the purchase order governance, ensuring professional consideration is given to the three key supplier/contractual characteristics.
  • To provide support as required to the other members of the procurement team.
  • To provide support as required to members of the quality team
  • To monitor supplier inventory, and provide support to members of the finance team, ensuring accurate financial year end stock sheets are submitted in a timely manner.

Qualifications required:

  • GCSE Grade 5 or above in Maths and English or equivalent
  • Qualified to, or working towards, a recognised procurement qualification MCIPS or equivalent standard
  • Time served in an engineering, fabrication & welding
  • HNC level engineering qualification
  • Recognised procurement qualification MCIPS or equivalent standard

Experience of working in a Purchasing & Supply Chain environment (minimum 2 years)
