Senior Data Engineer

Posted by Transact.

We are currently recruiting an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer with significant advanced experience to join our Business Intelligence team. As the business looks to take an increasingly data driven approach to change, we are expanding the team to provide additional capabilities and support, ensuring we continue to deliver the best outcomes and service for our clients and stakeholders.

The Role

The successful candidate will initially be focused on supporting a significant project as we migrate from on premise to the cloud. This will involve designing, implementing and monitoring automated data pipelines. There will also be a responsibility to build and maintain new and existing data infrastructure in response to business needs. As the successful candidate comes to understand the business further there will be more integration of BAU work into the role. Due to the variety of work that will be undertaken, some projects may be longer term pieces that take months to complete and others may involve working to shorter 2 week cycles.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with experts within the business to understand how you can best support their data needs.
  • Fleshing out business requirements relating to data, utilising your previous experience and colleagues' understanding of the business.
  • Designing and implementing new automated data pipelines.
  • Maintaining and monitoring newly created and existing automated live data pipelines, ensuring the data is accurate and is still fit for purpose.
  • Building and maintaining data infrastructure.
  • Support and mentor other members of the Business Intelligence team, outlining best practice and knowledge sharing to achieve business objectives.

Other duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate version control using Git.
  • Ensuring schema design supports high query efficiency and scalability.
  • Use CI/CD to automate testing, deployment and monitoring of data pipelines.
  • Keeping up to date with data best practice within a regulated Financial Services environment.

Person Specification

The role requires an individual with significant relevant data engineering experience, so they are comfortable problem solving with minimal supervision on large scale projects. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable working as part of a small team and have strong communication skills to liaise with business stakeholders. Candidates must have advanced SQL and Snowflake experience including optimization and best practice understanding. They must also have Azure Dev Ops experience and be comfortable with Data Warehousing concepts.

We offer a competitive remuneration package, including company discretionary bonus, excellent pension contributions, an attractive staff share scheme, BUPA health insurance, buying and selling of annual leave and sponsorship of relevant professional qualifications.

The role is based in our central London office, working a minimum of two days a week in the office and three days a week from home.
