Contract Role (Inside IR35)

Lancashire

I am working with a leading Aerospace company who is looking for a site chemist to join the team on a contractual basis.

You will manage chemicals and their use according to rules and regulations, like COSHH, to ensure safety and compliance.

Ensure that all staff and contractors are trained/ understand how to dispose of chemical waste effectively. You will also support and train the new permanent chemist as and when they join the business.

Responsibilities will include:

  • NDT

  • Disposal of waste chemicals safely, co-ordinate with local authorities for monitoring fume scrubbers.

  • Assist with chemical analysis and preparation.

  • Water Treatment Plant

  • Check plant daily for pH and flow.

  • Maintain equipment and replace as needed.

  • Coordinate with Utilities for effluent monitoring.

  • Coolants

  • Daily checks and adjustments on coolant system.

  • Maintain waste coolant system.

  • Conduct bacteria checks and treatment.

  • Keep records of coolant usage and machine maintenance.

  • Waste Disposal

  • Dispose of hazardous waste safely and legally.

  • Manage waste collection and disposal.

  • Register site for hazardous waste production.

  • Record landfill waste and recycled materials.

  • Hazardous Materials

  • Assess and manage hazardous materials.

  • Maintain safety data sheets.

  • REACH

  • Represent the company on REACH regulations.

  • Respond to customer inquiries on REACH.

  • Coordinate with suppliers on REACH compliance.

  • Address REACH implications for new processes.

  • Legionella Control

  • Coordinate with contractors for Legionella control.

  • Run taps weekly to minimize risk.

Essentials Experience/ Qualifications/ Skills

  • Extensive experience of coolant management systems and environmental waste streams
  • Strong knowledge of COSHH and REACH guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of chemical analysis and reporting
  • Knowledge of legal, local authority & regulatory health and safety requirements
