IT Support Technician Apprentice

We run academies in five main regions throughout the UK, providing either Primary, Secondary or all-through education to over 32,000 young people - 47% of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds and 31% speak English as an additional language.

Overview:

To provide first line hardware and software support, incident management, call logging, asset management, general IT administrative and other IT facility services as part of a service desk within the IT services department. The team's function is to provide staff, pupil and external customers support for all aspects of an IT infrastructure, including networking, server, desktop and laptop hardware (Tier 1 products) and software.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the IT Contracts and Finance Manager on projects and tasks
  • Inputting current inventory into the system using Asset Management
  • Using Call Manager for the call queue and ensuring that calls are updated by all technicians
  • Monitoring first line support call queue
  • Monitoring response times on incidents
  • Monitoring fix times on incidents
  • Dealing with URL web filtering requests
  • Dealing with change requests
  • Loan equipment requests
  • Laptopprojector requests

Desirable skills:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Office 365 and Office applications
  • Good understanding of computer hardware and troubleshooting hardware problems
  • Knowledge of remote desktop/network monitoring
  • Previous telephone support experience
  • Experience or knowledge of using a call logging system
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VPN's
  • Experience troubleshooting MS Office WordExcelPowerPoint
  • Basic understanding of PC hardware set-up and configuration

Entry requirements:

  • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above)
  • Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship is in a similar subject

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
