Mechanical Fitter

  • Location: Magherafelt
  • Job Type: Full Time Fixed Term Contract until November 2024 (with possibly of going permanent)
  • Salary: £30,230.42 per annum pro rata
  • Hours: 37 hours per week

We are seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join a leading Transport Company at their Magherafelt site. This role is essential for maintaining and repairing all mechanical aspects of vehicles, carrying out inspections, and completing associated administrative duties.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and servicing.
  • Diagnose and repair vehicle defects.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to the job.
  • Prepare vehicles for P.C.V. presentation.
  • Respond promptly to vehicle breakdowns.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Supervisor.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years' post-apprenticeship experience working on commercial vehicles.
  • Recognised Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeship with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant trade or discipline.
  • Strong diagnostic abilities.
  • Proficient knowledge of vehicle systems such as air brakes, diesel engines, and fuel systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Full current driving licence.
  • Flexible attitude to work and working hours, including availability for additional hours or call-outs.
  • Ability to obtain a PCV licence and meet medical standards for the post.

Desirable:

  • Engineering experience on buses and/or coaches.
  • Experience with IT packages.
  • Understanding of vehicle electrical systems and body structure.
  • Possession of a PCV Licence.

Health Surveillance:

  • HAVs (Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome) surveillance will be conducted.
