Air End Repair Technician

The Company

Our client is a premier provider for the repair of screw compressor elements in the UK, operating in cooperation with most major air compressor distributors. The company also trades in related parts, supplies, and air ends for its customers.

The Position

Air End Repair Technician - Responsible to overhaul all types of air ends, blowers and related equipment as found in industrial and mobile air compressors. Workshop based; no outside work expected.

Location

  • Smethwick, Birmingham.

Reporting Relationships

  • The position reports to the Operations Director of the business unit.

Responsibilities

  • Inspection, evaluation, and cleaning of incoming air ends.
  • Support report preparation with written notes and photographs.
  • Repair and rebuild air ends using own experience as well as supervision/instruction from the Lead Technician/Operations Manager, Test, paint, despatch as required.
  • Additional responsibilities (subject to incumbent's skills) forklift operation, machining, grinding, weld repair and fabrication, compressor service, repair of similar equipment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Work week 37 ¾ hours scheduled over 4 ½ days, (7.45am - 4.30pm Monday - Thursday, 7.45am - 12.30pm Friday).

Experience and skill set.

  • The candidate must have a minimum of 3-5 years in equipment service or machinery maintenance. Specific experience with the overhaul of air compressors, pumps or other rotating machinery would be beneficial.
  • High level of overall mechanical training and aptitude.
  • Experience with basic workshop machine tools.
  • Good understanding of mechanical equipment and how it works.
  • Experience working safely with lifting and machine tools.
  • Welding experience not specifically required but a key plus.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, willing to perform all workshop functions in support of customer requirements.
  • Good communication skills, particularly to record evaluation findings and communicate within the team.

Education

  • Applicable Engineering qualifications (eg City & Guilds Level 3) would be a plus.
