Role: Science Technician
Salary: £13-15 per hour
Hours: 8.15am - 3:30pm Monday to Friday, term time only (roughly 32 weeks a year)
Location: Wandsworth
Role Overview:
As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in creating a stimulating and safe learning environment for students. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and setting up equipment and materials for science practical sessions, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
- Maintaining an organised inventory of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and materials, ensuring stock levels are sufficient and placing orders as needed.
- Assisting teachers and students during practical lessons, providing technical support and guidance.
- Conducting routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure their proper functioning and safety.
- Monitoring and enforcing health and safety regulations within the laboratories, prioritising the well-being of staff and students.
- Assisting in the proper disposal of hazardous waste materials following established protocols.
- Collaborating with the Science Department to develop and improve practical resources, experiments, and demonstrations.
- Supporting the Science Department in conducting demonstrations and experiments during open days and other school events.
Requirements:
To excel in this role, we are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and qualities:
- Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably within an educational environment.
- An interest in science and a basic understanding of scientific principles.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to adhering to health and safety procedures.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, students, and staff members.
- Proficiency in using basic laboratory equipment and familiarity with scientific software and computer applications.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work, adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
- A relevant qualification in science or laboratory techniques is advantageous but not essential.
