Graduate Procurement

£24k plus £3k bonus (Graduate trainee role)

Do you have a mathematical brain and a love of Excel spreadsheets?

My client provides purchasing solutions to businesses requiring long term management and control of their overhead purchasing. Established for 20 years and employing over eighty staff, they are now one of the leading providers of expense reduction services in the UK with customers ranging from £billion turnover PLCs to SMEs and doctors surgeries.

They are currently recruiting for a Graduate Contracts Negotiator to support the Procurement Managers with the aim to progress into a Procurement Manager Role through on the job and external training where required. This is an expanding department and a great opportunity to grow and develop this role and make it your own. You will have full training and the opportunity to study for CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This is an interesting and varied role that is very different from the usual Purchasing vacancies, as you won't be placing orders for products directly, but instead negotiating preferential rates for our client's business customers.

The Procurement team sits right at the heart of the business and every preferred supplier contract negotiated impacts a large number of external customers who purchase against the terms you will be involved in negotiating.

  • Negotiate preferred supplier contracts and prices for use by the customers of our client on a variety of overhead areas
  • Facilitate the negotiation of one-off Capital Purchases for customers as required
  • Continually review market opportunities for new products and new suppliers
  • Work closely with internal and external teams to ensure continuous improvement

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The employee will be working towards being able to:

  • Review product areas to understand the products and/or services, price drivers and costs
  • Identify key national and/or regional suppliers within the market concerned
  • Negotiate the best possible contract price for customers
  • Implement overriding contracts and SLAs for new contracts negotiated
  • Perform ad hoc purchasing requests for services where no group contract exists
  • Compare pricing against any previously obtained quotes
  • Provide training on products and services to internal Account Managers
  • Carry out regular face to face supplier reviews to ensure competitive pricing and service levels are maintained
  • Assist with the production of monthly reporting from preferred suppliers

THE IDEAL PERSON

  • A graduate, previous experience is not necessary as full training will be given
  • Must be able to quickly understand a broad range of different products and services and how their pricing models vary and where the suppliers are making their profit
  • Someone who is a 'natural' buyer - who will not be satisfied with the first price given. Instead this person will enjoy looking for better deals!
  • Computer literate with a good understanding of Excel
  • Good head for figures - you need to be very comfortable with percentages, averages etc. and you'll be expected to be quick and accurate with any calculations you do

PERKS AND BENEFITS

  • Bonus paid quarterly
  • Long Service awards
  • 37.5hr week Monday-Friday
  • Generous company pension scheme
  • Employee discounts and savings
