Support Assistant

  • Temporary (up to 3 months)
  • Location: Bedford, MK42
  • Working Hours: 14 hours per week (2 days from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or 14 hours over 3 days
  • Salary: £12.00 per hour

We are seeking a Support Assistant to join our team at the British Red Cross. This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping people and looking to kickstart a career in the health and social sector. The successful candidate will assist the Support Officer in providing efficient administrative and operational support across the area.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide general administrative duties including handling incoming and outgoing mail, answering the telephone and operating a simple switchboard, scanning, and filing.
  • Meet and greet customers, ensuring a high level of customer service.
  • Read and comprehend emails, letters, and other relevant documents and respond as necessary.
  • Deal with queries in a diplomatic, professional, and confidential manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Work accurately, checking documentation for accuracy.
  • Assist in arranging meetings and taking notes.
  • Maintain computerised and manual confidential records, including accurate data entry.
  • Handle money and perform basic financial transactions as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Positive, passionate, and enthusiastic approach to customer service.
  • Confident in using telephone systems and Microsoft Office packages.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail.
  • Experience in providing proactive administrative support in a team environment.
  • Desirable: Experience of working in the voluntary sector and mentoring others.

Additional Requirements:

  • Full UK Manual Driving Licence (Mandatory).
  • Basic DBS required

You cannot start this role without a basic DBS in place. Reed will be able to carry this out on your behalf if you are successful.
