Financial Controller

My client are an 'Excellent' rated Independent School, seeking a dedicated and experienced Financial Controller to become an integral part of their vibrant school community. The role involves working closely with the Director of Finance & Resources and contributing to the school's commitment to delivering exceptional education. This position requires a candidate with an accountancy qualification, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for working within an educational environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the school's day-to-day accounting function, ensuring effective procedures and robust controls.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and monitor Income & Expenditure variances.
  • Report on cost centre income and expenditure, ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported.
  • Handle fee invoicing, fee collection, and debt chasing.
  • Administer school finance transactions, process supplier payments, and input invoices into the accounting package.
  • Support the Director of Finance & Resources in financial and audit responsibilities in compliance with charity SORP.
  • Liaise with auditors and implement audit findings.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial information to the Director of Finance & Resources.
  • Assist in presenting reports to the Finance Committee and Full Governor's Meeting.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for staff financial queries.
  • Perform various other tasks as instructed by the Director of Finance & Resources.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Fully qualified ACCA/CIMA or equivalent.
  • Excellent attention to detail and an analytical mindset.
  • Management accounting experience, preferably within an educational or charity setting.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
