Continuous Improvement/Process Manager

Our client is looking for a Continuous Improvement (CI)/Process Leader. The role will ensure that production processes are optimised in terms of efficiency, safety, food safety and accounting for current and new products and technologies. This position takes ownership for the quality, reliability, and throughput capability of all food processing equipment.

Key duties and responsibilities :

Process excellence

  • Lead Operational process set-up & improvement.
  • Establish new processes in support of new product development and other business change.
  • Monitor Operational capacity & layout, making recommendation for future change and investment.
  • Research, define & implement new process technologies to keep company at leading edge of sector.
  • Monitor and improve Operational KPIs using recognised methodology (e.g., DMAIC)
  • Advise Production management on areas for improvement and drive the necessary change.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of operational procedures and instructions

Continuous improvement

  • Actively involved in on-going CI initiatives (leading and supporting)
  • Priority areas are safety, food safety, yield and productivity improvement
  • Regular report ideas, trials and results across all production areas
  • Adopt and promote lean processes and continuous improvement initiatives within the workplace
  • Key CI interface with Waitrose
  • Train, coach and mentor Partners on CI methods

Compliance

  • Ensure Operational compliance to all relevant standards and regulations
  • Internal auditor for safety and quality standards

Capital projects

  • Prepare and submit capital justifications to support key business projects, taking account of approved budgets and business priorities
  • Lead and support key business projects, working closely with all key stakeholders throughout
  • Lead and support the identification, selection and installation of new equipment

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement and promote working methods which eliminates or minimises food safety risks such as cross contamination.
  • Understand product labelling standards for control of allergens, batch and product information
  • Report accidents and near misses immediately and assist in investigation where required
  • Develop your skills and capability, taking responsibility for your personal development
  • To undertake any reasonable request in supporting the business and its Partners
  • Strong attention to detail with a diligent approach to work activities
  • Actively engage with management, peers and staff of other departments to ensure efficient operations

Knowledge & Experience

  • Degree qualified, or equivalent experience in an engineering or operational discipline

  • Previous experience in food production is preferred.

  • Strong presentation and selling skills to ensure their thoughts are heard and understood by leadership.

  • Technical competencies will ideally include:

  • Level 3 Food Safety

  • IOSH Managing Safely

  • HACCP Level 3

  • Allergen training

  • Foreign body prevention training

  • Budgeting and managing costs related to CI

  • Project management experience

  • Proven ability to understand and prioritise multiple projects / tasks effectively.

  • Proven ability to take initiative and drive program of improvements.

  • Strong working knowledge of Lean manufacturing

  • Analytical mind
