Position: Media Relations Lead
Location: British Transport Police Headquarters
Contract Type: Initial 12-week contract (with the possibility of extension)
Rate: £550-£600 per day
Vetting Level: Management Vetting (SC Clearance required)
About the Role:
As the Media Relations Lead, you will play a crucial role in supporting BTP's strategic objectives by leading and coordinating all aspects of media relations, both traditional and digital. You will manage the media relations team, oversee day-to-day operations of the media relations desk, and provide expert advice on managing high-profile cases and crisis communications.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Set and execute strategic direction for media relations across BTP.
  • Lead the social media policy and digital communications strategy.
  • Provide expert advice to senior leaders, including the Chief Constable.
  • Manage media relations campaigns aimed at changing public behavior and perceptions.
  • Lead and coordinate the media response to critical incidents.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders.

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive experience in a press office or newsroom environment.
  • Proven track record in crisis communications and media handling during major incidents.
  • Significant experience in leading and mentoring media relations teams.
  • Strong understanding of media law and legal constraints.

Desirable:

  • Professional qualifications in Public Relations, Media, or Communications.
  • Experience with news desk management software.
  • Established national and regional media contacts.
