This position is for a temporary Senior Financial Accountant in the public sector in Newport. The role requires a strong focus on financial management, budgeting, and forecasting in an Accounting & Finance department.

Our client is a reputable public sector organisation head officed near Newport, they are known for their rigorous financial management standards and strong commitment to public service.

Description

This is an ongoing temporary role reporting to the Head of Finance.
The role will cover both Management Accounting and Financial Accounting aspects for the organisation.

Management Accounting;

  • The role will be responsible for producing the Management Accounts for some operational areas of the organisation.
  • management of 1 - 2 staff members
  • You will act as a trusted Finance Business Partner to senior stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Manage and prepare monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Oversee the budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
  • Assist in the development of financial strategies and plans.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to the management team.
  • Participate in financial audits and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with external auditors to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of financial management practices.

Financial Accounting

  • The role will be responsible for the production of the Financial Accounts and the Year End Audit.
  • The role will be responsible for Capital Accounting and revenue Accounting
  • The role will be responsible for Treasury Management of the organisation

Profile

A successful Senior Financial Accountant should have:

  • Professional accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or CIPFA).
  • Experience in financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Understanding of public sector accounting standards.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Job Offer

  • An hourly rate up to £27 per hour PAYE or £32 per hour Umbrella company. (£202 - £240 per day)
  • hybrid working - 1 day a week in the office
