What will you be doing?

The DevOps Apprentice will assist in the design, development, and maintenance of our AWS cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience and training in DevOps practices, including automation, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and infrastructure as code (IaC).

You may also be required to support and administer systems other than AWS, such as Github and other SaaS tools.

Key job accountabilities:

  • Support the configuration and management of cloud services (AWS Cloud).
  • Help maintain and monitor infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Learn and apply best practices for infrastructure security and compliance.
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools Github Actions or similar.
  • Contribute to the automation of deployment processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • Learn to write and maintain scripts for automation tasks using languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell.Work closely with development and operations teams to understand requirements and provide support.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint review, sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to infrastructure and deployment.

About You:

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Basic scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell).
  • Some experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git is desirable
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools and practices is desirable.

Entry Requirements:

  • The learner must have completed a Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship with QA or have an equivalent qualification with another training provider
  • OR an A-level in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
  • (STEM) subject and a successful completion of our aptitude test
  • OR a BTEC Diploma in IT and a successful completion of our aptitude test
  • OR 2 years' experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our aptitude test

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Future Prospects:

  • The apprentice will get to work in a friendly and collaborative team and will be given the opportunity to progress onto a higher apprenticeship programme once completing the level 4.
