Press and Social Media Officer Environmental Research Reading 9-month temporary contract £16-£24 per hour

My client have a short-term need for a hands-on Press and Social Media professional to support a busy press office

Your new role

  • Work collaboratively to plan, deliver and evaluate press and social media campaigns. Manage the delivery of different elements of the campaign and work undertaken by colleagues in relation to our campaigns and activities.
  • Formulate social media posts in line with media relations ambitions.
  • Respond swiftly to media requests for info/interviews/visits/images etc and coordinate a rota of press office cover.
  • Prepare briefings for interviews, holding statements for a wide range of interactions with the media with a view to maximise the time of spokespeople and ensure swift engagement with journalists.
  • Work with colleagues to facilitate media events and journalist visits.
  • Monitor and edit third-party press releases/case studies.
  • Build strong relationships with journalists at all levels.
  • Manage and deliver media events, including press conferences and media open days.
  • Monitor progress against media evaluation metrics and Key Performance Indicators to assess success.
  • Oversee regular reporting.
  • Liaise with various copywriters to prioritise the development of editorial to support media relations.
  • Write press releases and media brief as required.
  • Schedule media training and media coaching for staff and users and provide pre-interview briefings when required.
  • Contribute to team meetings so that everyone is aware of past, present, and future activities on the media side.
  • Support the Head of Strategic Comms with comms activities in situations of crisis/issues management as required.
