Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be working with a well-known faith-based charity to recruit a new Deputy Accounts Payable Manager to join their central finance processing function.

This function is part of the Finance Department, headquartered in London. This large, centralised team provides comprehensive services including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchase card administration, and expense management. They handle high volumes of transactions, such as purchase order processing, invoice management, expense claims, various payments, purchase card administration, sales invoicing, income processing, and payroll.

Role Overview:

This position supports the Accounts Payable Manager in the effective management of the Accounts Payable Team, ensuring the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs). The role involves supervising allocated personnel to ensure timely payment processing and acting as the deputy for the Accounts Payable Manager during their absence.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree-level education, AAT qualification, active study towards a relevant qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive accounts payable experience, preferably in a large organisation with multi-fund accounting, and knowledge of control risks and mitigation strategies
  • Proven experience in managing an accounts payable team
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and meet KPIs and SLAs, driving process improvements and performance enhancements
  • Strong understanding of double-entry accounting
  • Experience with U4BW, Agresso, or similar P2P ERP systems
  • Effective management skills, serving as a role model with the ability to engage and motivate the team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to influence and engage with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Excel (intermediate to advanced level)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Flexibility to work under tight deadlines and manage a high volume of work
  • Customer-focused with strong problem-solving skills
