Time Plan Education are working with a thriving Special School with children aged 5-11 years.

We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work within the Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) class.

The successful candidate will play an essential role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges, all of whom have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). This role involves working closely with students, teachers, and parents to provide personalised assistance, foster positive learning experiences, and support the overall development of each child.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, ensuring their individual learning and emotional needs are met.
  • Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and classroom activities, adapting materials and strategies as necessary to suit the needs of students with EHCPs.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies, support students in developing coping mechanisms, and encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Track and report on student progress, collaborating with teachers and the SENCO to adjust support plans and interventions as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs or in a similar special educational needs (SEN) setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Understanding of SEMH and strategies for supporting students with these needs, familiarity with EHCPs, and knowledge of safeguarding practices.
