An established, growing UK business who specialise in sourcing, import and distribution of food products. Predominantly serving UK customers, including retailers, food services, manufactures, wholesalers and public institutions. With around 200 staff in the UK, this is a highly profitable business with strong ethics, positive culture and people focus.

Job Description

The Finance Director will be a key role in providing effective financial planning, financial control, financial compliance, process improvement and team leadership. The role will lead and manage the financial and I.T functions, ensuring all financial controls are implemented, adhered to, and controlled. As an active board member you will support the organisation with process and efficiency improvements and by partnering with each business unit.

  • Full accountability and leadership of the Finance and IT teams, with full budgetary responsibility, ensuring that the functions address the current needs of the business and are strategically positioned to meet future requirements.
  • Ownership of the governance and reporting culture, ensuring financial and management reporting is timely, robust, accurate and insightful.
  • Maintaining strong financial control processes, ensuring that the balance sheet is clean and tightly controlled, with good oversight and understanding of accruals and the judgements behind them.
  • Ensuring that the processes for treasury, cash and profit recording are robust.
  • Management and maintenance of the Risk Register, ensuring that risks are appropriately identified, recorded and mitigated.
  • Using insightful management reporting to challenge and drive business performance.
  • Management of the treasury and banking relationships, ensuring that banking facilities are in place and that fraud risks are managed and mitigated.
  • Control and manage cash and working capital, including maintaining a framework of cash reporting and forecasting, working capital review and forecasting, stock management, FX management and oversight of banking facility usage and cost.
  • Ownership of the processes for managing risk through insurance, ensuring that appropriate policies and cover are in place.
  • Provide the Senior Leadership Team and Board with business partnering, advice, technical insight and analysis as required.
  • Ensuring that the IT Strategy is implemented and meets the best-fit needs of the business, working with the CIO/CISO to ensure that policies and risk management align with group expectations.

The Successful Applicant

You will be a qualified Accountant with a proven track record within a similar leadership finance role, ideally having also been responsible for IT. Your background will ideally be within food distribution or processing sector and ideally a larger SME environment where your role has been "hands on" and detail orientated. It would also be advantageous if you have worked for a UK business reporting into a larger group. You will be focused and determined and will have control of the day to day finance activities.Above all, you will be an experienced candidate that can demonstrate attention to detail, integrity and strong financial control/technical skills. You will be detail and deadline orientated, with a continuous improvement mindset. You will be able to challenge and influence with confidence. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential as is the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels. You will be business-oriented, able to handle day-to-day operational finance, mid-term projects and financial strategy. You will be a strong leader who can develop and modernise the finance team. Experience of ERP and IT systems would be advantageous. This role will require UK wide travel but will offer hybrid and flexible working.
