Sewell Wallis are working with a growing manufacturing business in Doncaster who are looking to recruit a Head of Finance to be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, leading the finance department to provide enhanced commercial insight and challenge across the group. The role requires a dynamic individual who can drive business strategy through high-quality, accurate, and timely financial analysis. The successful candidate will be pivotal in shaping the next phase of business growth, contributing to more robust budgeting processes and the development of a 5-year strategic plan.

What will you be doing?

  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a small finance team.
  • Business Partnering: Daily engagement with key stakeholders across various departments.
  • Financial Reporting: Oversee month-end processes, prepare management accounts, and create board packs.
  • Presentations: Conduct monthly meetings to present financial data to the senior management team.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and maintain budgets and forecasts, including weekly cash-flow forecasting.
  • Financial Oversight: Oversee and maintain the P&L, conduct detailed variance analysis, and manage the balance sheet.
  • Year-End & Audit: Lead year-end accounting, manage the audit process, and ensure timely delivery of audit and statutory financial statements.
  • Tax Compliance: Manage quarterly VAT returns and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Balance Sheet Reviews: Conduct regular reviews and support team members with their reconciliations.
  • Banking & Financing: Manage communications with banks, oversee financial covenants for loans, and handle financing needs.
  • Stock Control: Oversee monthly stock controls, particularly around stock cost valuation.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously review and improve month-end reporting packs and controls.
  • ERP Implementation: Play an active role in ERP system implementation and subsequent reporting improvements.
  • Business Strategy: Provide financial modelling and support to the leadership team on business strategy, capital investments, and expansion plans.
  • Support Roles: Cover accounts payable during holidays or sickness as needed.
  • Governance: Ensure financial controls are in place to provide appropriate governance within the business.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Manage relationships with banks, auditors, and external bodies like HMRC.
  • Training & Development: Participate in all mandatory training and support the ongoing development of the finance team.
  • Operational Meetings: Attend weekly operational meetings to drive efficiencies and improve awareness.

What skills are we looking for?

  • Qualifications: Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA or CIMA equivalent).
  • Experience: Significant experience as a senior-level Financial Controller or Head of Finance in a fast-paced growth company.
  • Industry: Manufacturing, warehouse, transport/distribution experience**.**
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Up-to-date knowledge of accounting regulations and external legislation, with the ability to communicate the impact on the business.
  • Broad Financial Experience: Demonstrated ability to add value to the bottom line and improve operational processes.
  • ERP & Process Improvement: Experience in implementing ERP systems and driving process improvements.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading a successful team, with a hands-on approach and a calm, collected demeanor.
  • Strategic Involvement: Experience at the board level, with strong skills in supporting and driving business strategy discussions.
  • Personality: Driven, hungry, and a strong fit with the company culture.
