Personal Care Assistant

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Personal Care Assistant to provide essential support to students with a diverse range of support needs, medical needs, and disabilities. This role is integral to our commitment to fostering independence and well-being among our students.

  • Job Type: Part-Time, Term Time 33 hours pw

**Day-to-day of the role of a personal care assistant:

  • Provide personal care and support to students, including assistance with personal hygiene, toilet and continence training, and eating and drinking.
  • Assist students in implementing their personal care programmes during the college day.
  • Offer practical assistance with physical needs such as hoisting, catheterising, transportation, dressing, grooming, and mealtime support.
  • Administer and prompt medication in line with students' medical plans and under the guidance of the Medical Manager/Nurse.
  • Support students in maintaining their health and well-being, and build professional relationships to provide emotional and social support.
  • Encourage students to undertake tasks themselves to promote a higher level of independence.
  • Communicate effectively with all professionals involved in the personal care of individual students.
  • Prepare meals and assist with feeding, ensuring consideration of individual preferences, nutritional needs, and cultural requirements.
  • Assist with mobility, including the use of walkers and wheelchairs, in line with physio and support plans.
  • Provide support in conjunction with their Care Plan and Risk Assessment.
  • Use manual handling equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintain adequate levels of PPE and equipment in Personal Care and Medical rooms, ordering supplies as needed.

**Required Skills & Qualifications for the role:

  • Experience in providing personal care and support to individuals with various needs.
  • Knowledge and training in areas such as Personal Hygiene, Moving & Handling, and Medication Administration.
  • Ability to use manual handling equipment and follow health and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive approach to promoting independence among students.
