DESCRIPTION

We are looking to recruit an experienced Head Gardener to maintain some high end private residential and commercial gardens in West London.

Following a significant refreshment of planting schemes and layout, we need a skilled and knowledgeable professional to ensure meticulous maintenance and development. Experience with sensitive environments and UHNW clientele is essential.

You will take ownership of garden-related issues, plan ahead, and work closely with the estate manager to preserve the garden's historical integrity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a structured work programme for year-round garden maintenance.
  • Collaborate with Estate Management on horticultural needs with written plans and schedules.
  • Coordinate with security, housekeeping staff, and other contractors.
  • Manage orders for tools, plants, and materials, including seasonal planting and mulching.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of all garden equipment and tools.
  • Oversee and maintain the irrigation system.
  • Implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Manage pests and diseases.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant horticultural qualification, preferably Level 3 or above.
  • Health and safety qualification, e.g., NEBOSH General, or equivalent.

SKILLS

  • Experience managing sites and supervising teams for UHNW clientele; SSSTS/SMSTS certification preferred.
  • Advanced irrigation knowledge and PA1/PA6 spraying certification.
  • Knowledge of garden maintenance methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of horticultural practices (planting, pruning, fertilising).
  • Experience in a horticultural role for UHNW clients.
  • Full clean EU or UK driving licence.
  • Leadership skills to provide clear direction and address personnel issues.
  • Relevant safety harness training.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and team management skills.
  • Creative vision and physical capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
