Location: B70, West Brom

Hours: 36.25 hours per week, 8.45am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday

The company seeks a Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Manager with extensive previous experience in an industrial manufacturing environment to plan and manage SHE functions in the company and improve SHE performance and culture.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the role holder will be responsible for the SHE Department which sets company policy, provides advice and manages all aspects of safety, health and environmental functions in the company. The role holder will chair and attend management meetings, liaise with external regulators, media, general public and trade associations, identify and advise on training requirements, investigate, report and suggest remedies for SHE issues in addition to monitoring and reporting on company SHE performance.

The main duties will be:

HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT

  • Devise, write implement and monitor procedures and systems for Health and Safety Management.
  • Act as an internal consultant on H & S matters; particularly as regards improvement to practices.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

  • Act as Management Representative for ISO 14001.
  • Devise, write implement and monitor procedures and systems for Environmental Management.
  • Act as an internal consultant on Environmental matters; particularly as regards improvement to practices.

MANAGEMENT

  • Chair Safety Committee, SHE Management Group and ISO 14001 Management Review meeting.
  • Attend Operational Strategy Group Meetings, Environmental Liaison Group meeting, ISO 14001 Group Meetings and others as necessary.
  • Reporting in writing to other members of Senior Management Team on SHE issues.
  • Communications and other dealings with Regulatory Bodies the general public and the media.
  • Liaison with Trade Associations, BSI, Severn Trent and other organisations.
  • Attendance at Industry Steering Groups and Specialist Regulatory Groups Responsible Care Call etc.
  • Attend meetings, seminars on regulatory updates and other SHE issues
  • Dealing with Compensation Claims against the company involving liaison with Solicitors, Insurance loss adjusters and Health service providers. Maintain contacts to ensure awareness of current and future HSE legislation and regulations.

TRAINING

  • Identification of SHE training needs.
  • Assisting with preparation and technical content of SHE training.
  • Delivery of some training.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Significant Health and Safety management experience gained from manufacturing, preferably high hazard industry, chemicals and CoMAH
  • Risk assessment review and development
  • Incident investigation, root cause analysis, auditing and report writing
  • NEBOSH certificate essential, NEBOSH diploma preferred
  • Knowledge of current SHE legislation/regulation
  • Knowledge and practicable application of Competence and Training management systems an advantage
  • Knowledge of Process Safety, Human Factors and Behavioural Safety an advantage
