SEMH TA

We are looking for a dynamic, experienced and motivated graduates who are looking to make a difference as a SEMH Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will have a passion for education.

Requirements:

  • Experience and training in trauma and attachment,
  • SEMH, ADHD, autism and ODD experience and
  • Must be flexible, calm.

Key Responsibilities:

Support Learning:

  • Assist students individually or in small groups with their educational activities.
  • Implement and adapt educational programs to meet the needs of students with SEMH.
  • Support teachers in planning and delivering lessons that cater to SEMH needs.

Behavioural Support:

  • Assist teacher to manage student's classroom behaviour to ensure a positive learning environment.
  • Use behaviour management strategies to support students in managing their emotions and behaviour.
  • Implement individualized behavior support plans.

Emotional and Social Support:

  • Build positive relationships with students to understand their needs and challenges.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to help students build self-esteem and resilience.
  • Facilitate social skills groups and activities to enhance peer relationships.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor students' progress and provide feedback to SENCO, pastoral teams and teachers/parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' achievements, behaviours, and any incidents.
  • Participate in multi-agency meetings and contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other support staff.
  • Liaise with external agencies (e.g., educational psychologists, social services) to support students' SEMH needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Environment:

  • Assist in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Support the implementation of health and safety policies and practices in the classroom and school.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning).
  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of SEMH challenges and strategies to support students.

Desirable:

  • Additional training or qualifications in SEMH (e.g., courses in mental health first aid, behavior management).
  • Experience in using specific interventions and programs (e.g., THRIVE, Boxall Profile).
