Work Style:
This role involves office-based and remote work, as well as client visits in various settings. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required for training or meetings.

Primary Job Function:
As an Adoption Social Worker in the RAA, you'll contribute to our vision of providing secure relationships for children and young people through adoption. Your role will involve recruitment, assessment, family finding, and providing adoption support services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of prospective adoptive parents and provide analytical reports within statutory timescales.
  • Participate in recruitment activities and deliver training for prospective adopters.
  • Facilitate permanence planning for children and family finding for adoptive placements.
  • Provide expert mentoring, advice, and support to adoptive families and birth families.
  • Facilitate contact between children/young people and their birth families where appropriate.
  • Build effective relationships with children, families, and professionals, prioritizing child protection.
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively with diverse stakeholders, tailoring communication styles as needed.
  • Produce well-argued, jargon-free reports and case notes.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation, research, and best practices in adoption and social work.

Person Specification:

  • SWE recognized social work qualification.
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation, safeguarding practices, and research.
  • Demonstrated ability in relationship-building and direct work with children and families.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of child development, trauma, and its impact on families.
  • Ability to assess and address issues related to mental health, substance misuse, and domestic abuse.
  • Competence in conducting assessments, making decisions, and planning interventions.
  • Familiarity with legal and youth justice systems.
  • Capacity for reflective practice and effective supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.

Special Requirements:
This role requires registration with Social Work England and enhanced clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
