Here at HM Land Registry, we are looking for a Database Administrator to join our Finance and Business Serviceson a full-time, permanent basis and in return,you will receive a competitive salary of £41,206 per annum (Croydon £44,938) Salary is inclusive of £4,609 (non-pensionable) IT allowance.

The Database Administrator role can be based at either of the locations below:

Croydon, London (region), CR0 2AQ : Plymouth, South West England, PL6 5WS

About the role

As our Database Administrator , you will be part of the IT Operations Practice, which is responsible for the performance and delivery of all technical infrastructure which underpins and supports the organisation.

The IT Operations Practice is mainly based in Plymouth. There will be a requirement for travel to Plymouth, with the expectation that this would initially be more frequent to assist with on-boarding and team building, but after that, as an when required and agreed (travel / hotel costs will be covered).

The role holder will work to the Corporate Services technical team and other Lead Infrastructure Engineers and will consult with other stakeholders such as the Delivery Practice, Service Management Practice and the Service Design and Transition team.

Key responsibilities as our Database Administrator:

  • Monitoring table and index space growth and organisation; identify objects for reorganisation or repartitioning according to established thresholds
  • Implementing object changes as part of an application release schedule or installation of software package; document the changes
  • Using appropriate tools to identify inefficient database access paths or applications affecting CPU levels; recommend and implement changes to improve efficiency; document the changes
  • Amending application data when authorised; document the changes
  • Executing processes to provide statistical and accounting information in support of the production databases; analyse and distribute as appropriate
  • Executing processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the database and application environments; act on any anomalies
  • Applying agreed database security requirements; document the changes
  • Keeping database backup and recovery processes current; monitor and resolve any identified problem
  • Investigating and implementing new techniques for database design, maintenance, access and connectivity

What we are looking for in our Database Administrator:

  • Knowledge and practical experience of the administration of the following relational database: o Db2 for z/OS (v10 or later)
  • A broad knowledge of IT infrastructure and operations, academically or through work experience
  • Evidence of high-level planning and managing technical change
  • Displays commitment to the delivery of customer service in terms of speed, accuracy and quality
  • Effective management and prioritisation of personal workload and tasks.
  • Works flexibly and effectively with minimal supervision
  • The ability to take a logical and analytical approach to problem solving
