Manufacturing Engineer

We are recruiting for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to be based within our established company on the outskirts of Cardiff.

This person reporting to the Engineering Manager and will lead maintenance and improvement activities through best practice methodology.

An essential part of the role is to find a balance between the most efficient solution while balancing cost and material against wastage.

We are looking for experience in the following:

  • Electrically qualified
  • PLC Design (Simens programming) (essential)
  • Mechanial experience: Milling and Lathes (preferred)

The role

  • Design, develop and maintain automated and standalone manufacturing processes and equipment, jigs and fixtures etc. to meet project requirements and safety standards.
  • To support and develop continuous improvement of current process to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Compile and support the writing of relevant documentation including risk assessments, production work instructions to ensure safe working practices.
  • Maintain a record of all documentation.
  • Ability to oversee or support in process modifications and tooling change overs.
  • Implement repair and modification work to site facilities and equipment including electrical wiring and service installation work.
  • Knowledge of of 5S, lean and HS&E practices.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Responsible for driving specific projects assigned and meeting agreed project targets.

Skills and Behaviours:

  • Strong communication skills and project lead
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Self-disciplined, demonstrate knowledge of 5S, lean and HS&E practices.
  • Time served qualification in a Manufacturing / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering discipline (Degree / HNC level with on the job experience).
  • 18th Edition Electrical wiring qualification (preferred but not essential) & experience in installing basic single / three phase electrical circuits.
  • Strong practical and problem-solving ability.
  • Design level experience of PLC's and / or Control system programming especially Siemens S7 & UR 6 axis robots.
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings / schematic diagrams.
  • Conversant with Microsoft office
  • Ability to operate workshop equipment such as Lathes, Milling Machines etc.
