Machine Learning Engineer - Defence Business Unit - Must be able to be security cleared
Job Description
We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join our Defence business unit. In this role, you will design, build, and deploy production-grade software, infrastructure, and MLOps systems that leverage machine learning. Your work will help solve a broad range of high-impact problems in the defence and national security space.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Production-Grade Systems: Design, build, and deploy production-grade ML software and infrastructure.
- Creating Scalable Tools: Develop reusable and scalable tools to improve ML system delivery.
- Customer Collaboration: Work with customers to understand their needs and provide technical expertise.
- Best Practices Development: Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to develop best practices and new methodologies for operationalizing ML software.
- Cross-Functional Teamwork: Participate in cross-functional teams including commercial, data science, product management, and design specialities.
Your Role
- Work in cross-functional teams to deliver technically sophisticated and high-impact systems.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to scope projects and design systems.
- Provide technical expertise to customers.
- Contribute to technical delivery within the Defence business unit.
- Support and mentor junior team members.

Technical Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Understanding of the full machine learning lifecycle and experience with frameworks like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Demonstrable experience mentoring junior team members.
- Knowledge of probability, statistics, and common machine learning techniques.
- Experience in software engineering, particularly in Python.
- Technical experience with cloud architecture, security, deployment, and open-source tools, with hands-on experience in at least one major cloud platform.
- Proficiency with containers, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
- Comfort in a high-growth startup environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excitement about dynamic roles with autonomy and freedom to take ownership of problems and execute solutions.
