We need a passionate and experienced mental health nurse to work in a well-established team at an acute hospital in South West England, assisting and supporting general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations.
Description:
The priority for the post holder will be to provide:
- High level of nursing and observation
- Delivering a range of nursing and psychosocial interventions to help reduce patients' distress
- Assist and support general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations
- Provide one-to-one nursing for behaviorally disturbed, distressed, or confused patients
- Offer support and advice to patients presenting with a range of undifferentiated mental health, psychological problems, and psychiatric illnesses
- Deliver a range of nursing and psychosocial interventions to individual patients and their families, as appropriate
- Represent mental health services within the general hospital
Skills:
- Demonstrable experience of working in a mental health setting
- Knowledge and experience of adult safeguarding procedures
- Ability to restrain patients using approved techniques
- Handling and appropriately storing patient valuables
- Ability to deal with emotional and distressing situations
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Respect for the privacy and dignity of individuals
- Ability to manage demanding situations
- Ability to cope with exposure to aggressive behavior
- Ability to plan own workload
- Knowledge of Mental Health presentations and appropriate interventions
- Understanding of the NMC Code of Conduct
- Knowledge of risk management and how to plan care to account for risk
