**Bookkeeper (Maternity Cover)

- Annual Salary: Up to £35,000 (pro-rata)

We are currently looking for a skilled Bookkeeper to cover a 6-month maternity leave within a reputable construction company. As the sole member of the accounts team, you will play a crucial role in managing all bookkeeping activities, maintaining accurate financial records up to the trial balance stage, and overseeing payroll responsibilities. Immediate availability is required for this temporary assignment.
**Day-to-day of the role:
- Maintain precise financial records and prepare accounts up to the trial balance stage.
- Manage all payroll aspects, including processing payments, deductions, and handling queries.
- Ensure compliance with Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) regulations and submissions.
- Handle accounts payable and receivable, including invoice processing and reconciliation.
- Perform bank reconciliations and maintain effective cash flow management.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in a timely manner.
- Liaise with external auditors, accountants, and other financial stakeholders as necessary.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance efficiency.
**Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience as a Bookkeeper, preferably within the construction industry.
- Familiarity with Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and its application in payroll and accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and strong Excel skills.
- Capable of managing payroll and performing all tasks up to the trial balance independently.
- Excellent organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously.
- AAT qualification or equivalent is desirable.
