Environmental Health Officer (Food Hygiene)

Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Environmental Health Officer for our client local government organisation based in Portsmouth.

The successful candidate will carry out food compliance inspections of low and medium risk premises to ensure compliance with UK and international standards for food safety, hygiene and sanitation.

This is a 3 month starting contract with the possibility to extend.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Carrying out food compliance inspections of low and medium risk premises to ensure compliance with UK and international standards for food safety, hygiene and sanitation. Together with the issuing of relevant certification and the delivery of follow up enforcement actions.
  • Inspect plans, investigate and consider any development proposals in relation to the environmental health service's functions and responsibilities, giving advice, making recommendations and taking appropriate action.
  • Provide expert advice to businesses and individuals to support compliance with environmental health legislation.
  • Remain aware of environmental health legislative and policy developments (including Council policy related to the duties and responsibilities of the post, in accordance with the principles of continuous professional development and participate in any relevant training as required.
  • Liaise with and consult other officers or external organisations, as necessary, or as required by law, in the interests of providing an effective environmental health service.
  • Advise members of the public, elected Members and others on any matter within the professional or technical competence or knowledge of the postholder.

Personal Requirements:

  • Qualifications: the Certificate of Registration of the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in the inspection of food businesses.
  • Demonstrable compliance with CIEH minimum of 20 hours CPD requirements, the FLCofP competency criteria and demonstration of the FSA competency framework.
  • Working knowledge of applying environmental health legislation and guidance in practical situations.

Working Hours: 09:00am - 17:00pm, Monday - Friday

Pay: £25.26 p/h

Please note this role is within the scope of IR35.
