Retail Business Development Manager

Our client are a fast growth business.

They are now looking for a BDM ideally with experience in the DIY/Garden Centre/Chemical sectors.

Job Overview:

As a Business Development Manager (Retail Sector), you will be responsible for driving sales and expanding market presence in the UK retail sector. You will focus on selling a range of premium products to retailers, wholesalers, and distributors, leveraging the technical benefits of the products to build strong, long-lasting customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Market Expansion: Identify and target new business opportunities within the retail, wholesale, and distributor channels. Develop and implement strategic plans to expand market share.
  • Sales Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy that aligns with company goals. Focus on promoting the technical benefits of premium products to differentiate them in the market.
  • Customer Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers in retail and wholesale businesses. Understand their needs and provide tailored solutions to drive sales growth.
  • Product Knowledge: Gain an in-depth understanding of the product range, including their technical specifications and benefits. Use this knowledge to educate and persuade potential customers about the advantages of products.
  • Negotiation and Closing: Lead negotiations with potential customers to secure contracts and close sales deals. Ensure that all agreements are mutually beneficial and aligned with company sales and margin objectives.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for new product development and areas for improvement.
  • Reporting: Regularly report on sales activities, pipeline development, and market feedback. Provide accurate forecasts and insights to the management team to inform strategic decisions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing, product development, and technical teams to align sales efforts with product launches, promotional campaigns, and customer requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Business Development Manager or Sales Manager in the retail sector.
  • Strong understanding of the UK retail market
  • Demonstrable experience in selling premium products and effectively communicating their technical benefits to customers.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and capable of working independently.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK as required.
