Position Overview:

Purpose of the Job:

Clinical Director responsible for the safe, effective and timely delivery of medical assessments on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) - for new recruits to the Royal Navy, the Marines and the Reserves.

Responsible for:

Clinical Leads and front-line clinical colleagues responsible for service delivery

Requirements:

  • Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK)
  • Full Registration with the GMC and record of Continuous Professional Development
  • Full participation in the appraisal and revalidation as required by the GMC
  • Significant clinical leadership experience
  • An understanding of the Medical Service Delivery within the Ministry of Defence / branches of the armed forces is preferred
  • Sound knowledge of Clinical & Corporate Governance
  • Good organisational and communication skills

Principle Duties and Responsibilities.

  • To function as the Clinical Director for the Central Government – MoD department inside the Clinical Services Division.
  • To work alongside The Account Director for Central Government – Ministry of Defence.
  • Assure and guide the work of the clinical teams in the delivery of their work.
  • Manage and resolve clinical queries from front line clinical teams by working collaboratively.
  • Responsible for assurance of activity that requires senior clinical sign off as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the early identification of clinician and clinical concerns / escalations and to take the appropriate steps to gather information and undertake any required action in conjunction with the Medical Director as appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements required by the Ministry of Defence through regular audits and checks.
  • Responsible for ensuring Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement framework to be followed by clinical teams.
  • To submit a monthly report of activity – and as directed by the Medical Director.
  • To support the Medical Director with the delivery of clinical leadership.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of the clinical staff, including conducting appraisals and identifying training needs to enhance competencies.
  • Foster a supportive and collaborative environment that attracts, retains, and develops high-quality staff.

General duties:

  • To keep up to date with all required training needs and good practice commensurate with the role
  • Ensure proper and robust record-keeping.
  • To attend regular Governance, Operational Meetings and ad hoc meetings as required.
  • To safeguard patient and client welfare by ensuring the highest standards of medical practice are maintained.
  • To have in place indemnity at all times with a Medical Defence Organisation (MDO) appropriate to this role.
  • To be present/onsite in the office for a minimum of one day within the working week.
  • To declare any conflicts of interest.
  • To attend meetings and undertake any further activities as required consistent with the aims and objectives of the organisation.
  • To lead, foster and support a culture that ensures transparency, robust patient and client safety and high-quality clinical care are at the forefront of what we do.
