PHP/Wordpress Developer

The Company

Over the last 15 years our client have grown to over 1000 employees, supporting a national customer base and becoming a market leader in their sector. With a headquarters near Sunderland they are building a highly capable back office function and within that looking to add an experience PHP/Wordpress developer to the team who will ensure that existing sites are kept up to date and support marketing with the creation of new pages.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Head of Digital and working closely with the marketing team you will contribute to the development and delivery of the companies public facing marketing websites. This will be 100% hands-on role and your responsibilities will include;

  • Transform and maintain current public facing websites.
  • Help deliver search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy as defined by the Digital Marketing Manager with the goal of increasing web traffic and new client conversion to achieve ambitious growth targets.
  • Support the marketing team to optimise web pages for maximum speed, scalability, and SEO.
  • Use PHP(WordPress), JavaScript, CSS, and HTML to develop visually impressive page designs.
  • Take designs created in Figma and bring them to life - having a keen eye for detail is critical.
  • Create webpages which are mobile optimised and responsive.
  • Contributing to, and following, software development best practices.
  • Taking ownership of delivery of work assigned

The Person

We're looking for candidates who have

  • Strong proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and SQL.
  • Experience with WordPress development.
  • Understanding of SEO principles and a willingness to learn more.
  • Experience working with databases and familiarity with CLI usage.
  • Knowledge of software and application architecture.
  • Understanding of domain and DNS records.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

This is a permanent role paying up to £27,000 and will require candidates to be onsite, near Sunderland, 4 days per week.
