Prototype Engineer

We are searching for a proactive, motivated and self-driven Prototype Engineer for an innovative and extremely exciting R&D Team based in Exeter, Devon.

In this role you will take responsibility for producing prototypes, machined components, production jigs and assembly fixtures.

You will have the ability to work collaboratively with the design, development, engineering and manufacturing teams in order to produce accurate prototypes for our client's biomass, electric and gas laboratories.

You will have an aptitude for precision engineering gained in a similar engineering and manufacturing environment. You will need to be quality focused, and results driven, willing to assist with other duties, such as product rework, as and when required.

The role is being offered as an onsite position with some hybrid working available once you have successfully completed your probation period. Please note, this is NOT a remote opportunity.

ROLE DUTIES

  • Proven background in the production of prototypes manufactured in both sheet metal and thicker gauge materials.
  • Proven background in precision component machining utilising both turning centres and milling machines. Previous experience in other machinery such as surface grinders whilst not essential, would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in welding of both thin and thicker gauge materials would be desirable.
  • Full understanding of the principles and terminology used in the design of sheet metal assemblies alongside the ability to interpret component and assembly technical drawings and produce prototypes within the tolerances required.
  • Work with engineering teams to produce jigs and fixtures to aid the assembly of products in the manufacturing process ensuring they are fit for function.
  • Excellent communication skills with a working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work within tight timescales delivering prototypes to the laboratories within the agreed timescales.
  • Understanding the calibration, use and maintenance requirements of the equipment used in the metal shop areas.
