Senior Transport Support Officer - SEND

Specific Accountability's:

  • Oversee applications for Travel Support to assess appropriate travel support options, Prepare and present requests for reviews of decisions to the Reviewing Officer, Prepare and represent at Travel Support appeal hearings.
  • Investigate and resolve queries and complaints from schools, parents and contractors, Lead on child protection including providing child protection training for staff and contractor personnel and pro-active safeguarding advice to service providers
  • Manage day to day running of Travel Support, ensuring that issues are dealt with efficiently and appropriately, Evaluate routes and identify potential efficiency's.
  • Oversee the use of the Intend system to manage DPS and procurement in conjunction with the procurement team, Negotiate route costs with Service providers, Lead on Travel Training Co-ordination.
  • Monitor compliance and Contract management to support the others in the Travel Support team responsible for this area, Carry out on site advisory visits to schools and colleges
  • Manage processes for checking DBS applications for contractor personnel including, preparing risk assessments for sign off.
  • Oversee child risk assessments; carry out individual assessments and put in place Pupil Care Plans where necessary.
  • Record and investigate complaints and initiate contract default action, Manage Travel Support Allowance agreements and payments.
  • Ensure invoice processes followed and manage queries and discrepancies, Represent the Directorate/Transport Team on internal and external bodies.
  • Attend meetings involving schools, pupils and parents and carrying out presentations regarding developments/changes to the transport service.
  • Liaison with SEN team regarding travel support applications and decisions.
  • Responsibility for line management and supervision of admin staff.
  • Responsibility for line management and supervision of LA employed passenger assistants
  • Assist with the strategic development of Travel support including policy and procedures.

* If appropriate to be responsible for the recruitment and performance management of designated teams and individuals in accordance with Corporate and Directorate aims and management style.

* To comply with the council's financial regulation and standing orders

* To actively promote Dudley's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults at a level appropriate to this group.
