My client are seeking a Waste Services Manager to lead the their waste management services, ensuring strategic, efficient, and compliant operations. This role is pivotal in managing residential and commercial collections, council HWRC provision, and all related waste treatment services, aligning with the council's needs and priorities.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the waste management services, including kerbside and commercial collections, and HWRC provision.
  • Develop and implement waste management strategies that meet the needs of the city's residents.
  • Ensure the provision of outsourced waste services, including PFI contracts, is aligned with their objectives.
  • Offer high-level advice and evidence to support key decisions and waste strategies.
  • Coordinate the effective operational and strategic organisation of resources.
  • Manage financial control, legal risks, resilience, contract compliance, and performance standards.
  • Represent the service at the highest level on waste management matters.
  • Drive collaborative working arrangements and ensure compliance with statutory requirements and waste management regulations.
  • Oversee the development of local plans, strategies, policies, and standards.
  • Engage, equip, empower, and develop the team in line with the council's values and leadership qualities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Substantial experience as a lead technical expert in Waste Management and UK Legislation.
  • Proven leadership and professional development skills in a busy and diverse work environment.
  • Experience in developing high-level plans and strategies with significant impact.
  • Technical knowledge of the waste industry.
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and advise on complex technical, legislative, financial, legal, and contractual matters.
