Building Safety Manager

  • Location: Kirklees Council. Hybrid working (2 office days per week)
  • Job Type: Full-time, permanent.

Kirklees Council are seeking a Building Safety Manager to ensure compliance with the Building Safety Bill 2021, Fire Safety Act 2021, and the Social Housing White Paper 2020. The role involves managing and maintaining high-risk residential blocks and Retirement Living Schemes, focusing on tenant safety and engagement, and managing compliance risks. This position requires a proactive individual with extensive knowledge and experience in fire and building safety within the social housing sector.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards for high-risk residential buildings through risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and manage policies, procedures, and systems to maintain the "golden thread" of building data for Building Safety Case Reports.
  • Support the delivery of investment and remediation work, communicating effectively with tenants and residents.
  • Advise the Building Safety Assurance Board and Accountable Person on any breaches of required standards.
  • Develop and implement the Council's Fire Safety Management Plan and related fire strategies.
  • Manage day-to-day responses to risks in high-risk buildings, collaborating across teams.
  • Develop tailored Resident Engagement Plans for each high-risk building.
  • Ensure reporting to the Building Safety Regulator complies with statutory requirements.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and contribute to the development of new services to enhance the organisation's sustainability.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge of the built environment and current Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity, and Safeguarding legislation.
  • Experience in developing and delivering customer engagement and consultation plans.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of managing building safety and delivering effective fire & structural safety services.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Fire Certificate/Diploma, Level 4 VRQs, or equivalent).
  • Degree level qualification in Construction and Built Environment.
