Teqniq is searching for a Planning Policy Officer to work in the public sector.

36 hours per week.

3 months contract.

Job Description:

  • Assist in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of place-shaping policy for the councils. Incorporating expertise from a range of professional disciplines and complies with statutory and corporate requirements and policy.

Key Tasks

  • Work as part of the Planning Policy team to delivery a spatial planning service, through provision of advice, guidance, interpretation and evaluation, so that it meets statutory requirements and legislation and seeks to delivery corporate priorities by preparing and delivering the Development plan and associated documents.

CoreAccountabilities

  • Undertake research and evidence-based studies that are required in order to inform development plan policies and other place-shaping policies and strategies. Where necessary and where opportunities arise, undertake such work in partnership/jointly with other local authorities.
  • Assist in the research and delivery of specific policy projects, to inform the preparation of an up to date Development Plan and related documents.
  • Arrange, establish and assist with stakeholder engagement and public consultation exercises that are undertaken as part of policy and strategy formulation.
  • Work alongside town and parish councils to ensure that where appropriate, Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessments are embedded into the plan making process from the start.
  • Accurately maintain information system to collate data required for the councils' Monitoring Report, ongoing monitoring of housing and employment land supply and the monitoring required to review the effectiveness of development plan policies.
  • Maintain the content of the relevant pages of the councils' websites relating to planning policy and other strategy and policy matters.
  • Deal with and respond to day-to-day policy enquiries received by the Planning Policy team.
  • Prepare reports relating to the job purpose for Cabinet, council committees and other internal and external meetings.
  • Undertake such other duties as appropriate to the grade and designation of the post and as required by the Head of Planning.
  • Collaboratively working to ensure Development Plan documents are up to date and respond to national/local/regional legislation/context to include.
