The Client

Harmonic is delighted to be working with a Surrey-based Specialist Tech Engineering start-up. Founded in 2014, the client has and continues to accelerate the Aerospace and Drone Surveillance market. The brand-new HQ offers the chance to join a thriving team of friends who enjoy working with the next generation of Aerospace technology.

Over the past 3 years the business has disrupted the aerospace market following a seed round fund raise where the business generated £3m in investment from top VCs. Off the back of this the business has pushed forward year on year. Last year the business took turnover from £2m previously to circa £10m and has set out a plan to double this year with a forecast turnover of £20m. In 2023 they reached profitability and with the forecasted growth for this year, this will remain the case. They have ambitious plans this year to increase the headcount from circa 50 to a minimum of 75 people.

This is the perfect opportunity to get stuck into building a high-calibre HR function where you'll play a pivotal role in developing processes and collaborating with the senior management team to drive strategy and operational excellence.

The role:

As the HR Manager, you will play an integral role in fostering the company's inclusive culture and supporting with its rapid growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will take ownership of the HR function and collaborate closely with the senior management team to drive strategy and create operational excellence. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious HR professional to make a significant impact and contribute to the success of the business.

As the first dedicated HR hire into the team, you will have a lot of autonomy within the role to build a high-calibre function and make a significant contribution to the growth of the company. You will have support from the finance team with some of the day-to-day tasks. The business has a brilliant culture around promoting within, so the opportunity comes with an excellent opportunity to progress your career and reach senior management level very quickly.

Responsibilities:

  • HR Strategy and Leadership: Take full responsibility for the HR function, managing and developing the function.
  • Talent Acquisition and Onboarding: Lead recruitment efforts to attract top talent, ensuring a smooth onboarding process for new employees.
  • Performance Management: Implement performance evaluation on systems and support managers in providing effective feedback and coaching to employees.
  • Employee Relations: Foster a positive work environment, mediating conflicts, and addressing employee concerns.
  • Learning and Development: Identify training needs and implement development programs to enhance employee skills.
  • HR Policies and Compliance: Develop and maintain HR policies, ensuring adherence to employment laws and regulations.
  • Compensation and Benefits: Collaborate with leadership to design competitive compensation on packages and benefits plans.
  • Culture and Engagement: Play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the company's inclusive culture, implementing strategies to enhance employee satisfaction, moral and retention.
  • HR Metrics and Analysis: Utilise data-driven insights to evaluate HR initiatives' effectiveness and drive continuous improvements.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace through recruitment strategies and training programs.

What we need to see (Essential):

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with a commercial astute mindset
  • Ability to thrive within a fast-paced start-up environment
  • Driven and ambitious individual wanting to progress quickly
  • Experience creating or organising annual performance reviews/appraisals
  • Previous performance management experience

What we would like to see (Bonus):

  • CIPD Level 5 or Studying towards the qualification
  • Strong experience in talent acquisition and onboarding processes
  • Proven experience in HR leadership roles, particularly in scaling start-ups
  • Previous experience using BreatheHR or similar platforms

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 + 15% Bonus
