Fixed Income and Currencies, FIC, is an EUR8bn revenue business within the Investment Banking division of Deutsche Bank, responsible for providing execution and risk management services globally. We focus on market access, liquidity provision, and financing solutions across asset classes, including Foreign Exchange and Rates.
The business relies heavily on technology and requires the sophisticated technology platforms to meet the demands of ultra-low latency, massive volumes, sophisticated real-time analytics, and research, whilst ensuring the highest levels of stability.
The FIC Technology team is 1500 technologists responsible for over 300 applications. We are at the beginning of a mission to overhaul our technology estate. The Chief Engineer & Global Head of Architecture is a role reporting to the CIO for FIC Technology and is responsible for setting the architecture strategy and driving the modernisation and simplify our estate and development practices. They will also be responsible for innovation: pioneering in new technologies which will revolutionise the FIC business.
Your key responsibilities
- Defining and communicating the architecture strategy of FIC Technology in alignment with bank wide goals.
- Modernising our engineering practices across the team, increasing developer productivity, and enabling high levels of agility.
- Modernising platform architecture across the group and coaching teams on new architectural approaches using the latest technologies.
- Driving the move to cloud - both internal and external. Coaching teams through cloud adoption. Identifying and resolving issues that are preventing wider cloud adoption, collaborating with corporate wide infrastructure groups.
- Identifying areas for technology consolidation and sharing and working with teams to define plans and help articulate those
- Innovation. Identifying the potential to leverage the latest technologies such as AI, blockchain and data science within the trading and software development domains.
- Advise on technology organisational structures to drive efficiency when building shared components.
Your skills and experience
- Previous experience in a senior leadership role defining, operating and driving architecture and engineering strategy and practices.
- Domain expertise in a wide array of finance systems and architectures with deep experience in the electronic trading domain
- Expert in cloud architecture with hands on experience of building systems for the public cloud (AWS or Google certifications an advantage)
- An individual that can operate at the macro and micro level. Ideally, still a hands on engineer that can engage at the code level across a number of technologies
- Experience of enhancing the productivity of development teams including Agile, DevOps etc.
- E xperience of architecting and building finance systems with experience across multiple asset classes and trading systems
- E xperience of leading multi-region development teams using Agile methodologies .
- Experience of technologies at the forefront of innovation, such as machine learning, AI and blockchain.
