Production Manager

We are actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Production Manager with experience in fresh food products to join our successful agricultural company. The ideal candidate will have a background in Food Production, Manufacturing, Operations, or farm management. As the Production Manager, you will be instrumental in overseeing the planning, organisation, and management of production processes, ensuring adherence to the highest quality standards.

Your responsibilities as a Production Manager will include:

  • Leading and managing the production team, including pickers and packers, to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Providing clear guidance and performance targets to operatives, clarifying their contribution to the business.
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance production processes and overall efficiency.
  • Training, coaching, and mentoring supervisors to bolster their leadership and management skills, aiming to improve pick rates.
  • Ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained throughout the production process.
  • Working with cross-functional teams, such as procurement and logistics, to guarantee the timely delivery of products.
  • Making sure new Pickers & Placers adhere to relevant safe work systems and operating procedures.
  • Participating in daily operations meetings to plan personnel, yields, houses, and work hours for the next day.
  • Fostering positive and cohesive teamwork to meet daily picking targets.
  • Coordinating with Harvesting Team Leaders, Harvesting Supervisors, the Growing Manager, and the Engineering Manager regarding any issues with team members, yields, or machinery.
  • Continuously monitoring and evaluating picking statistics, ensuring all harvesters meet minimum targets and implementing disciplinary actions if necessary.
  • Assessing production performance, analyzing data, and pinpointing areas for improvement.
  • Managing staffing levels and scheduling shifts to fulfill business requirements, including weekend

About you as the Production Manager

  • Previous experience in a production management role, preferably in the agri-food industry
  • Strong background in fresh food products is highly desirable.
  • Experience of successfully managing and leading a team within a production / manufacturing environment.
  • Food production / fresh food experience would be desirable.
  • Proven management style focused on coaching, mentoring and inspiring.
  • Experience of delivering on productivity, quality and performance.
  • Experience of lean, continuous improvement and change management.
  • Managing Health and safety
  • Proven track record in strategic thinking and implementing process improvements.
  • Excellent people management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
