Electronics Technician

Our client who is based in Rochester, specialises in through-hole and SMT PCB assemblies, box build, and both in-house and subcontracted manufacturing. They are growing and looking for an enthusiastic Electronic Technician to join their dynamic manufacturing team.

As an Electronic Technician, you will report to the Manufacturing Operations Manager and play a crucial role in supporting the increase in sales volumes. Your main responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities

Fault finding and troubleshooting of electronic assemblies and finished products.

  • Understand schematics and assembly diagrams for modern electronic products.
  • Use specialised and general-purpose test equipment, eg oscilloscope, spectrum analyser.
  • Strong problem solving skills, a methodical approach and attention to detail are essential. Please note that part of the selection process will include a practical test of your electronic fault finding skills.
  • Provide feedback to manufacturing and engineering teams as appropriate.
  • Able to work independently, and as part of a team.

Perform rework, modifications and repair to electronic assemblies and completed products.

  • You will need a good eye for detail and excellent manual dexterity.
  • Follow standards and procedures relevant to the work, e.g. IPC 7711/21 (Rework, Modification and Repair of Electronic Assemblies).

Create test stations for electronic assemblies and completed products.

  • Work closely with our engineering team and manufacturing team to design and document practical test procedures to ensure correct functioning, quality and reliability of electronic assemblies and completed products.
  • Build test stations as required.
  • Train manufacturing staff to perform tests correctly.
  • Follow standards and procedures relevant to the work, e.g. IPC-J-STD-001A (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies). A current IPC qualification is desirable; if you have appropriate experience we can provide training for you to meet this standard.

Occasional low volume electronic assembly and prototyping.

  • Including hand assembly and/or programming and operation of our pick and place machine and reflow oven.
  • Follow standards and procedures relevant to the work, e.g. IPC- IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies).
  • At all times accurately document work performed according to company procedures, and maintain high product quality standards. Experience of working within ISO9001 quality system is desirable.
  • Work within all relevant regulations e.g. Health and Safety, electrical safety and COSHH.
  • Other responsibilities as required to enable the smooth running of the manufacturing operation, and cross-training in other technical areas in line with the requirements of the business.

Qualifications:
You will have a strong interest electronics, a relevant electronics qualification e.g. HND or equivalent, and at least two years' experience in a similar role.

A current IPC qualification is desirable; if you have appropriate experience training can be provided.
