Electronics Engineer Radiation Effects

Posted by Akkodis.

An Electronics Engineer with radiation effects knowledge is required for a contract assignment on site in Bristol (possibly one day a week from home)

Overview of department:
The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Radiation Effects (RE) department is like no other within the company. It is split between a test team working hands on in our state of the art EMC Facility to simulate environments and a highly skilled project consultancy team that is embedded across all projects to ensure good EMC and RE practice & design.

The Radiation Effects side of the department require highly skilled electronic engineers; the engineers will work on the analysis and review of electronic circuits within the unit analysis team and/or Design of Test solutions within the H/W team.

Responsibilities:
The objective of the unit analysis team is to determine the performance degradation and behaviour of given circuits after exposure to the specified prompt dose radiation and the objective of the H/W team is to design and build the test solutions. It is not expected that the engineer will understand the effects of radiation on electronic circuits, as this is specialist knowledge and will be taught in-situ by the experienced unit analysis team. However, the engineer should have in-depth Electronic circuit design knowledge, which will allow them to reverse engineer electronic schematics to fully understand the design operation and failure modes across a wide range of equipment types.

The engineer will also be responsible for providing independent review of supplier unit analysis, documents to be reviewed are:

Skillset/experience required:
To work within the Unit analysis team, the engineer should be able to design and analyse circuits down to first principles to understand the circuit behaviour and failure modes - e.g calculating the gain of an amplifier, being able to express the transfer function of a transistor to input/output bias currents, calculate RC time constants etc. Experience with analogue circuit design or power supply experience would be a plus. To work within the H/W team it is expected that the engineer should have substantial analogue and digital circuit design experience and preferably experience in PCB layout/prototyping.
