Are you an experienced Head of Purchasing/ Head Buyer with experience in procurement, sourcing and engineering?
GMP Recruitment are proud to be partnered with a well-known, fast growing, bespoke engineering and technology company located near Kidderminster. We are currently recruiting on their behalf for a Head Buyer to join their team on a fill time, permanent contract.
This is an office-based position, working Monday - Friday and can offer a salary up to £60K which is pending relevant and suitable experience, plus excellent company benefits.
A technical background is essential to be considered with the ability to interoperate technical drawings as well as a background in machining and or fabrications.
The ideal candidate will show experience working with a portfolio of existing suppliers in machining and fabrication for small to medium quantities. You will work with the engineering teams, project managers, accounts and quality teams daily.
Head Engineering Buyer main duties:
- Extracting & interpreting engineers' requirements
- Co-ordinating quality meetings to monitor and report on EGR's and supplier scoring.
- Working with suppliers to understand new technologies and how they may be applicable.
- Preparing outstanding order reports.
- Preparing quotations and concepts
- Assisting with building partnership relationships
- Work on occasions outside normal hours.
- Contributing to external & internal design reviews
- Upselling items such as spares and service contracts.
- Preparing supplier performance reports, on time to delivery, costs to budget.
Head Buyer required skills and experience:
- Experience in bespoke production systems, capital equipment or similar
- A proven ability in leading and developing teams, having successfully managed a high-volume supply chain to produce complex, regulated, mechanical technologies
- Local network of midland based suppliers including machinists, fabricators, electronic/ electrical and distributors.
- Strong negotiation skills
- CIPS qualification ideally.
- To deploy and implement the partnership strategy in co-ordination with the Commercial Director.
- To identify, select and approve suppliers in co-ordination with the CD that meet the short, medium and long-term needs of the business, considering the total cost of ownership.
- Implement a scoring system based in key performance indicators set by the CD.
- Co-ordinate with the quality manager to ensure each supplier complies with QM systems strict quality procedures.
Coach, mentor and develop the Purchasing team to ensure best practices are maintained.
- Ability to present internally
- Good written and communication skills
- Good administration and prioritising skills
- Good reporting skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to allow the candidate to talk and negotiate at all levels.
- A technical / engineering background is preferred as systems are all bespoke
- Familiarity with ISO 9001:2000, 140001, 450001 Quality Systems and procedures.
